How to apply for Indian Passport if you are staying in a hostel for studies

Getting a passport while staying in hostel is little hectic. The problem is that one has to go through two police verification process. One at home, and other at the police station near to your hostel. Depending upon the police personnel, you might have to pay bribe twice. My friend had to pay Rs.1000 at Police station near to our hostel. I am against bribing and I won't pay it. The police personnel assigned for me was ideal and didn't ask bribe. So, depending upon the Police personnel you might have to pay bribe. The other problem is the application form. There are only two options in the application form to fill address. Present and Permanent Address. Permanent address is normally our home address. But the present address will be printed in passport. So, we can't put the hostel address as present address. In application form, we can see Previous address option in sidebar, but no access on it. This is the main issue.

Therefore, You have two options infront of you.

1. If your hostel is not so far away from home. Don't provide the address of hostel. Say you are a day scholar. Or apply during vacation time, and tell you are not studying now. But this is not the proper way. If you are caught, your passport application will be rejected and a fine of Rs.5000 will be imposed.
2. This is the proper way. You have to put the hostel address as 'Previous address'. Put present and permanent address as your home address. Present address will be printed in passport. I got this information from PSK during the verification process. But luckily, I didn't see the Previous address columns in Online and PDF application forms in the website :P. So, Put present and permanent address as your home address. There will be three counters in PSK for certificate verification and all. They are A,B and C. The A counter is now managed by TCS and it is arranged for corrections in application form and to collect photo and thumb impressions. So, you can tell the officials in A counter to add hostel address as previous address.

Please note that the passport application will be rejected and a fine of Rs.5000 will be imposed in the case of cheating.
